We are currently seeking volunteers for the following studies:



AFUNED project

Attention in functional neurological disorders

Requirements:

  • women aged 39 to 62
  • men aged 53 to 59
  • no mental or neurological disorders
  • no head injuries or seizures (photosensitivity, epilepsy)
  • no medication including hypnotics or strong analgesics

Description: We are looking for healthy participants for the control group. Your task will be to fill out several psychological questionnaires. You will then play a simple game in an MRI scanner while pretending to have tremors in one hand. The entire study, including preparation, will take approximately 2.5 hours, with the MRI scan itself taking approximately 45 minutes.

Reward: Financial reward and, if you are interested, a CD with images of your brain.

AVATAR project

Advanced approaches to fMRI data measurement and processing with a view to contributing to neurological research and diagnosis

Requirements: 

  • 41 to 60 years old
  • right-handed only
  • native speakers or Czech at a similar level
  • no psychological or neurological difficulties
  • no head injuries or seizures (photophobia, epilepsy) 
  • no medication including hypnotics or strong analgesics

Description: These are two visits to our clinic 3-5 weeks apart. The total visit time is estimated to be 1.5 hours, the MRI alone takes approximately 60 minutes. You will perform simple tasks during the MRI scan.

Reward: Possibility to submit anatomical images of your brain and a financial reward.

BIPEN project

Research on the Structure and Function of the Brain Associated with Persuasion in Bilingual Speakers

Requirements:

  • Czech-English late bilingual speakers living in the Czech Republic, i.e.:
    • native speakers of Czech, raised monolingually
    • Began learning English at the age of 5 or later
    • Have a conversational level of English
  • Right-handed
  • Aged 18 or older
  • No contraindications for MRI examination
  • No psychological or neurological disorders
  • No developmental language or speech disorders (e.g., dyslexia)
  • No visual impairment that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses

Description: The study involves a single visit during which you will undergo an MRI scan. During the MRI, you will perform simple tasks. The entire session, including preparation, will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Reward: You will have the option to receive anatomical images of your brain.

ELICIT_2025 project

New Strategies in Multi-Echo fMRI Data Processing

Requirements:

  • 20–40 years
  • right-handed only
  • no contraindications for MRI (e.g., claustrophobia, pacemaker, etc.)
  • no history of head injury, seizures (photosensitivity, epilepsy), or dizziness
  • no significant neurological, psychiatric, or other clinical issues (e.g., depression, anxiety, panic attacks, claustrophobia, AD(H)D, stroke, cardiac problems, etc.)
  • no medication involving hypnotics or strong painkillers

Description: The study involves a single visit to our research facility, during which you will undergo an MRI scan. During the measurement, you will perform several simple tasks. The entire session, including preparation, will take approximately 1.5 hours.

Reward: Financial compensation will be provided as reimbursement for your travel expenses and time.

GIBBS project

Growing up in a bilingual environment: Neurological insights

Requirements:

  • participants over 18 years of age
  • no contraindications to MRI scans
  • participants have grown up in a bilingual environment from an early age and have/had equal contact with both languages (one language is Czech or Slovak)

Description: You will then be invited to the actual MRI measurement. The total visit with preparation will not exceed 1 hour, the actual language task in the MRI will take about 30 minutes.

LANG-LBD project

Sentence comprehension problems and modifying therapy with non-invasive brain stimulation

Requirements:

  • 60 - 80 years old
  • right-handed
  • czech as a first language
  • people with Parkinson's disease

Description: Patients only. This is three visits that will include a neuropsychological examination, MRI scan and speech and writing recording. This includes non-invasive brain stimulation in the home (10 sessions).

Reward: a CD with anatomical images of your brain, a description of the neuropsychological examination (memory, attention, visual-spatial functions, speech functions...) and a financial reward.

LILA project

Lifetime with language: the nature and ontogeny of language communication

Requirements:

  • male and female
  • 60 - 80 years old
  • right-handed
  • czech as a first language
  • no psychological or neurological difficulties, also not taking psychopharmaceuticals
  • without color vision impairment

Description: this is one visit where you will complete a speech and writing recording (10 minutes), a neuropsychological examination (30 minutes) and the actual MRI scan where you will perform individual tasks (60 minutes).

Reward: a financial reward for participation and the opportunity to receive images of your brain or a summary of the results about your level of cognitive function.

NeuroSIB project

Neurocognitive bases of social cognition and interpersonal behaviour

Requirements:

  • male and female
  • 20 - 45 years old
  • right-handed only
  • Czech as a first language
  • no psychiatric or neurological difficulties, also not taking psychopharmaceuticals
  • no contraindications to MRI (claustrophobia, pacemaker)

Description: this is two visits per week. During the first visit (about 3.5 hours) you will undergo a neuropsychological examination and an MRI scan during which you will perform simple tasks. The second visit will be together with another participant who will be examined by MRI at the same time as you and you will perform the tasks together (about 2.5 hours).

PREPI project

Multimodal approach to predicting seizure-free outcomes after epilepsy surgery

Requirements:

  • aged 20–45
  • right-handed and left-handed
  • no mental or neurological disorders, no use of psychotropic drugs
  • no contraindications to MRI (claustrophobia, pacemaker)

Description: We are looking for a control group – you will undergo a one-time magnetic resonance imaging examination lasting approximately 1.5 hours, including preparation.

SUPOSA project

Multimodal MRI imaging in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea

Requirements:

  • men and women
  • 40 - 65 years old
  • without psychological and neurological problems (stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuroinfection, craniotrauma), also not taking psychopharmaceuticals
  • without contraindications to MRI (claustrophobia, pacemaker)
  • without known sleep disorder

Description: This is an all-night polysomnography examination in the sleep laboratory of the Brno University Hospital with completion of questionnaires (demographic data + sleepiness). You will also undergo a brain MRI and neuropsychological examination at CEITEC (approx. 2,5 hours).

Reward: a CD with anatomical images of your brain and the results of the examination.

VISPER project

Color Perception: A Multimodal Neuroimaging Study

Requirements:

  • age 18–45
  • right-handed
  • native-level knowledge of the Czech language
  • no developmental language or speech disorders (dyslexia, etc.)
  • no visual impairment that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses
  • no color vision deficiency
  • no psychological or neurological conditions (stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuroinfection, traumatic brain injury), and not taking psychopharmaceuticals
  • no contraindications for MRI (claustrophobia, pacemaker, etc.)

Description: This is a one-time visit during which you will complete a short standardized test for color vision deficiency, fill out several questionnaires, and perform simple tasks outside the MRI environment. Afterwards, the MRI examination will take place, during which you will wear an MRI-compatible EEG cap and complete prepared tasks. The entire visit, including preparation, will take a maximum of 2.5 hours.

Compensation: Financial compensation will be provided as reimbursement for travel expenses and your time.
